Student Clarinets
Student Clarinets are generally made from ABS plastic or Resin.
The plastic body gives the instrument an immediate responsive which aids playing in the early stages.
Although all Clarinets require regular maintenance and cleaning, plastic clarinets are more resilient to temperature and moisture changes than the wooden bodied instruments.
Intermediate and Professional Clarinets
Intermediate and Professional Clarinets nearly always have a body made from wood, although composite materials are also being used for professional clarinets
These instruments require a more developed technique to produce the warm and well rounded sound they are capable of.
Many of the more advanced instruments feature a different internal bore which is more complex in that it is designed and made to produce a well rounded sound throughout the range together with very accurate tuning. (polycylindrical bore)
A new wooden clarinet requires gradual playing in. This is to avoid possible cracking. Wooden clarinets may also require occasional oiling of the bore, which should be done by a trained technician.
