Student Clarinets
Student Clarinets are generally made from ABS plastic or Resin.
The plastic body gives the instrument an immediate responsive which aids playing in the early stages.
Although all Clarinets require regular maintenance and cleaning, plastic clarinets are more resilient to temperature and moisture changes than the wooden bodied instruments.
Intermediate and Professional Clarinets
Intermediate and Professional Clarinets are nearly always have a body made from wood.
These instruments require a more developed technique to produce the warm and well rounded they are capable of.
Many of the more advanced instruments feature a different internal bore to help the player reduce more volume with their developed technique.
A new wooden clarinet requires gradual playing in. This is to avoid possible cracking. Wooden clarinets may also require occasional oiling of the bore, which should be done by a trained technician.
